Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have an amazing job! I'm an occupational therapist, and I get to help special needs children access their education in a Title 1 school. Most of the students at my school who receive occupational therapy qualify for special education under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

These toys and supplies will give students fun and engaging ways to improve skills in their respective deficit areas.

The laminator will allow the occupational therapy team to create individualized activities for these special needs children to meet their IEP goals in fun and creative ways. Included in the project are games that use tongs to pick up small items, which can be used to help facilitate proper pencil grasp. There are also writing activities, such as the Aqua Doodle mat and alphabet magnets, so kids can use magnets to create model sentences and then copy their sentences. Also included are puzzles to increase visual memory and visual perception skills, craft supplies for working on a variety of skills, and items to include in the treasure box for students who have worked hard.
